Okay granted talk like a pirate day was on Monday (it’s always September 19 – put it on your calendar), but I figured pirates would be a good topic for Wicked Wednesday. I mean, who doesn’t think a pirate can be sexy?
Well I supposed historically speaking they probably weren’t, but I’m all about fictional, hot, anti-hero type pirates! The ones from really great movies and romance novels.
Things
Has anyone seen this Netflix show? It’s seems to be the biggest thing this summer and with good cause. It really is a well put together show. I have described it as a cross between Stephen King and Steven Spielberg LOL.
From casting (Hello, nice to see you, Winona Ryder!) to music, to story this show has it all. It’s a great throwback for people like me who grew up in the 80’s watching movies like Goonies, Poltergeist, Close Encounters and Firestarter.
The kids in this are fantastic. It looks as though they’ve embraced the time period with enthusiasm – Dungeons & Dragons? Yes, please … Corduroy pants? I remember those too. The glasses, the HAIR! The light blue eyeshadow (*shudder*).
And it’s not all about the kids either, it’s a multi-generational show, the adult casting is inspired, the teens are appropriately annoying LOL and those kids are very reminiscent of the 80’s kids I grew up watching.
You can’t get away without seeing some kind of article or blog post about this show, it is that popular. One of the more interesting and fun aspects of the show was their title card. It’s a throwback to early Stephen King novels.

Yes I know, it’s been a loooooong while and really I have no excuse other than to say life has been really crappy for me the last year.
My real, bill-paying job has pretty much sucked for the last year or so. I’m not happy there and trying to find a new one has proven frustrating to say the least and I lost a very good friend suddenly last summer. This has led to a pretty depressing 12 months for me where even thinking about writing has been too much.
That is not to say that I haven’t had some good times. Just a few days ago, I became a great aunt to a beautiful baby boy. He really is the cutest baby ever (but I may be a bit biased).
Anyway, the point of this post is how a random, small thing can really make your day (or year) and put some wind in your sails. Case in point:
I was scrolling around Goodreads, a site I haven’t been on in AGES, not only haven’t I written, I also haven’t read much, but I digress…. I decided to poke through and check my page when I suddenly see that there are reviews posted – REAL reviews … from people I don’t know LOL.
I have to say, it made my day 🙂 and it is pushing me to finish what I’ve started. So thank you to anyone who has ever written a review or an email or left a comment – I sincerely do appreciate it, especially when doubt creeps in and you start to think no one cares, or no one is picking up your book.
I hereby do solemnly swear to give you at least one book this year (but I’m hoping for 2).

For the first time in a long time I am really excited about something I am writing … well, rewriting. It’s not the third book in the wolf stories (sorry) although that is about 75% done. All the rewriting for it is 95% done then I just have to merge the old with the new. It’s coming, I promise not to abandon them.
No, this story is something I wrote YEARS ago, it was one of the first full length stories I wrote that was not based on a previously established character AKA Fan Fiction.
I’m not sure why I put it to the side, I just did and I brought it out every now and then to reread it. It’s a contemporary story in the vein of a Blaze book. So to say it’s sexy is an understatement. When I hit a wall with the wolf book, I decided to take this one out again. I realized it just needed a little (okay a LOT) of work, but it was 99.5% done and I could probably have it done in a couple of months if I stuck to it.
I went in with guns blazing and my red pen went to work. There is a LOT of red in it, but I think I’ve tightened the story up and it is in a place that I’m really happy with.
SO! Now on to inspiration.
Well I am back from my family vacation (7 Day Cruise to the Caribbean) and it was fantastic and I am gearing up for my 3 day Annual Disney trip for my nephew’s birthday, but I wanted to give a little update on my writing.
I am STILL not done rewriting the third book, there’s a lot of reasons for it, but let’s just say that the muse is not cooperating at this time so I am going to shelve it for now. That’s not to say I won’t ever get back into it because I will, but for now I think it’s better that I move on to something different.
So I’m going to jump into a contemporary that is 99% done – it’s so done, I’m currently editing it and will be publishing it probably very soon – like in the fall soon.
I hope to have a cover image soon as well and if you’re interested in the blurb it’s in the coming soon section right here – the story is called The Second Time Around and maybe it was the inspiration of the cruise and the sea and the sand, but I’m really excited about it and I hope you will be too.

Well, I’ve finally received my Ancestry DNA summary and I have to say that they were VERY thorough LOL. In each of the categories, they have included a brief history on the people which is really informative.
I am really happy with the results and slightly surprised at some of them – not really location wise, but percentages …. so sit back and here we go …….
So I hope everyone’s weekend was fantastic!
Mine was ever so much fun, Friday night I got to be a 16 year old girl again. My friends and I went to the NKOTB, TLC, Nelly – The Main Event Concert! NKOTB as you may or may not know are the New Kids on the Block.
As a young girl growing up, I never went to concerts. My first concert was a Menudo concert at the Rockland County Fair in 1988 – It was Ricky Martin’s farewell tour – I was 13. The next concert I went to wasn’t until I was 17 or so – Paula Abdul’s Spellbound tour (I saw that one TWICE). Then after that I didn’t go to another concert until I was in my 20’s. So I missed out on screaming my head off for NKOTB.
The concert was FANTASTIC and it was more than middle aged women screaming over middle aged men. I must say they still got it! The music was fun (they have a new album out – it’s really good) and there was lots of old stuff (The Right Stuff, Hanging Tough, Please Don’t Go Girl …) to mix in with the new stuff (The Whisper, Block Party, The Remix). If you have a chance I highly recommend going to see them – they put on a great concert.
Of the other 2 acts, they were fantastic as well. Nelly opened the show and set the tone with a high energy set that got the crowd in the arena on their feet. I was doubly excited to see TLC as well. Though bittersweet with the absence of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, the ladies still put on a hell of a show and Lisa’s presence was felt as her voice echoed around us on pre-recorded tracks.

So here I am about a week after I last posted about sending out for my DNA kit. Well, I received it yesterday. I should have taken pictures of the kit itself, but alas I was so excited about doing it that I just jumped right on in.
The kit itself is a small box and inside is a test tube type of tube with a cup on the end. When I first ordered the kit I thought I’d be swabbed – nope I have to spit into the tube and they need it full to a line – according to the paperwork they say it’s only about 1/4 teaspoon of spit. You are not supposed to eat, drink or chew gum for 30 minutes prior to the spitting LOL.
Once you’ve filled your tube, you take the cup off and replace it with a top – inside the top is a blue liquid – a DNA stabilizer according to the paperwork. Once you place the top on the seal inside breaks dripping the blue liquid into the tube. Then you shake, shake, shake it for 5 seconds.
Once that is done, you place your tube inside a baggie they supply and then that all goes into the prepaid box that was also part of the kit. Final step is to put it in the mail …. Now I wait.
This is the hardest part.
In other news, I am still almost done with the new written stuff for book 3 – once that’s done it is only a matter of editing down what I have already written to fit the new vibe of the book. Fingers crossed I will have that done by the end of June – then it’s edit, edit, edit away and hoping to resubmit before I head off on vacation in mid-July. Wish me luck!
